Dichroic glass has been used as a scientific material for precision optics such
as the Hubble telescope, but its unique light transmitting qualities lend
themselves well to the creation of beautiful one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.
Fused glass is created by layering clear and colored glass pieces and then
firing the layers in a kiln. With this process, Jan can create a range of work
from delicately patterned earrings and pendants to bold and bright platters
and bowls.
Stained glass can be adapted for everything from small projects like sun
catchers and nightlights up to full windows like the one that began Jan’s
career in glass. She needed a window for a home renovation and found it was
faster (and more fun!) to learn to make one herself than to wait for a
commissioned piece. Jan likes the versatility of stained glass and the range of
effects that can be created by using different colors and textures of glass.
