History
Just down the road, the town of Harford is today very much like it was a
century or more ago. Many of the original buildings stand nearly unchanged,
and the town has the close-knit atmosphere of country villages long ago. The
Harford Fair, an annual agricultural fair running continuously since 1858, is the
highlight of the summer season for the whole of Susquehanna County. It retains
the old-time traditions of pulling contests, vegetable competitions and livestock
shows, and draws a large crowd each year.

It is no wonder, then, that Jan Winemiller feels so much at home in this place of
beauty, history and family ties. And no wonder that the history of Tingley Glass
stretches back far beyond the moment the studio opened its doors in 2008. The
emphasis that the Tingley family and the town of Harford place on community,
tradition and the nurturing of new generations is the spirit that infuses the
Tingley Glass studio with its ethos of both making beautiful glass arts and
passing on that knowledge to budding glass artists from near and far.
